Emmanuel Nursery School follows a theme-based curriculum. Our curriculum provides children an opportunity for individualized learning and discovery. Emphasis and support is placed on the process of learning through the use of developmentally appropriate activities and materials.

Science

SciencePreschoolers are at the age when they are trying to make sense of the world around them. Basic science concepts are introduced at a level that the children can understand. Throughout the year, the children are given opportunities to make predictions, observe changes and see results of many questions relating to everyday situations that they experience. Learning through discovery and a hands-on approach is a key ingredient to our science curriculum.

Mathematics

MathematicsEarly development of number concepts is critical in developing positive attitudes about mathematics at an early age. We strive to incorporate math learning in all areas of the curriculum. Basic concepts such as numbers, shapes, spatial relations, measurement and patterns are found in a variety of classroom activities.

Language and Literacy

LanguageChildren at preschool age are already well on their way to becoming literate. At ENS, one of the main goals is to foster a love of reading. Story time is an important element of the day. Children are introduced to many outstanding authors, a variety of genres and poems. Children are given opportunities in developmentally appropriate ways to recognize the letters of the alphabet, letter formation and the beginning of associating sounds with the letters that represent them.

Personal and Social Competencies

SocialA critical area of development for kindergarten readiness is social and emotional development. A positive, social and emotional atmosphere increases the ease with which all learning takes place. Conflict resolution, problem solving and independence are part of the learning that takes place each day. Children's social skills bloom as they learn about sharing, taking turns and the value of cooperative play. They discover that they are part of a larger world and that the rewards of friends are invaluable. Our goal is for children to emerge from their first school experience confident in themselves and empathetic towards others.

Fine Motor Development

Fine MotorFine motor development is important in performing many critical tasks presented in the preschool classrooms. The children are exposed daily to activities that will encourage the development of their manual dexterity such as, writing, drawing, cutting, and lacing. As children's skills increase, the number and complexity of the materials increase as well. Development of fine motor skills is essential for kindergarten readiness.
